ARTIST INFO

All painting are original and for sale.  For shipping, purchasing unframed paintings is suggested and most practical.  My pastels are preserved under conservation or museum quality glass and custom framed.

If you wish to review a more extensive inventory of my art work, please  email me at
karolenicholson@karolenicholson.com indicating the subjects you wish to view.  Representational works include pastoral landscapes, vibrant florals and "snapshots of everyday life" stills.   Recently I have expanded to include abstracts created in oils, pastel and acrylics.

For most of my pastel paintings I use Wallis or Uart sanded paper or I create my own surface on Masonite board which has been prepped with gesso.  A ground of pumice and sand is then applied to prepare the surface to receive the medium.  After a series of small sketches to develop my design, I often begin with a watercolor under painting to establish values and palettes.  Using a broad range of hard and soft pastels, I then begin the intimate process of painting.  These web pages contain some of my most current works.
